The Sustainable Solutions Development Solutions Networks (SDSN) in partnership with the OECD-DAC are pleased to invite you to join them for an official Stockholm+50 associated event on Mobilizing International Financing to Restore and Accelerate SDG Progress. 

This high-level event will discuss major priorities to restore and accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the context of multiple and simultaneous crises.

Participants from international institutions, national governments and civil society will discuss how the international financing system could be further mobilized to support SDG transformations and investments in physical infrastructure and human capital - including in poorer and vulnerable countries.

We are proud to welcome high-level speakers, namely:

• Prof. Jeffrey D. Sachs, President of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network
• Ms. Susanna Moorehead, DAC Chair of the OECD

An estimated 80% of plastic waste in the oceans comes from land-based sources and a substantial portion of that comes from unmanaged or poorly-managed dumpsites. Southeast Asia has become a hotspot for plastic waste, where over 75% of recyclable plastic is lost in Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines annually. To contain and clean up plastic waste from the land and ocean environments, governments need to understand where plastic waste is concentrated and use innovative approaches to collect timely information on plastic waste dumpsites.

Satellite imagery and spatial analysis can provide insight into the location and characteristics of plastic waste dumpsites and help monitor changes in near real-time. SDGs Today's partner, Earthrise Education, has developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm to detect plastic waste dumpsites using satellite imagery and other geospatial features with support from the Minderoo Foundation. The collected data could help evaluate the risk of plastic waste entering the ocean.

To enhance the accuracy of the algorithm and build capacity among students to utilize Earth Observation data and geospatial analysis, SDSN's SDGs Today and Earthrise Education have teamed up to launch a pilot project titled, the “Mapping Plastic Waste Challenge,” which aims to provide students in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and China with tools and educational material to help build this automated system to monitor plastic waste and help take a step forward toward achieving SDG 14: Life Under Water.

Esta nueva entrega del Informe Forética toma el pulso a la salud y el potencial de la agenda ESG en un momento crítico. Desde nuestra última edición en 2018, la sostenibilidad ha superado una segunda crisis sistémica -la de la pandemia provocada por la COVID-19 – de la que ha salido reforzada. Sin embargo, 2022 ha traído una nueva fuente de preocupación que, sin duda, impactará en el desarrollo futuro de la agenda de desarrollo sostenible, como es la geopolítica.

La guerra en Ucrania, el primer conflicto armado en el corazón de Europa en décadas, supone la punta del iceberg de un enfrentamiento entre dos modelos distintos de sociedad en la que los derecho y libertades, la democracia, la igualdad de oportunidades, la protección del entorno -todos ellos pilares fundamentales de la agenda de desarrollo sostenible- parecen estar en juego. En este sentido, el desarrollo de las políticas ESG se enfrenta a un fuego cruzado en este choque de visiones.

Ante el gran número de incógnitas que suscita el contexto actual, el Informe Forética 2022  mostrará que la sostenibilidad ha superado un punto de no retorno y que se encuentra en su mejor momento para afrontar esta nueva amenaza. Para ello, analizará el estado de desarrollo y las perspectivas a futuro en sus tres ejes fundamentales de impulso. El entorno regulatorio, la actividad empresarial y la visión ciudadana.
