They analyze the role of the private sector in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals

The Vice Presidency, in alliance with the Chair of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability "Alejandro E. Grullón E.", carries out various activities to raise awareness among private sector managers about the content of the 2030 Agenda and the importance of creating business strategies that favor achieve the 17 SDGs

 

SANTO DOMINGO, July 9, 2019.- The private sector plays a leading role in fulfilling the 2030 Agenda and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), through creativity and innovation in processes, the sustainable use of technology and natural resources, the promotion of decent work and the promotion of equality.

Aware of the importance of alliances between the State and the private sector in achieving this agenda, the Vice Presidency of the Republic, through its Tú Primero program, the Chair of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability "Alejandro E. Grullón E .” from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Popular Foundation, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), analyzed the role of the business sector in a series of modules and conversations that seek to connect companies with global priorities, and that this contributes to the growth of their businesses.

The modules "Sustainable Development Goals: an opportunity for impact for the private sector" were held in Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata and Punta Cana to discuss coordinated actions around the 2030 Agenda and the content of the SDGs and their implementation in the country, with the objective of motivating the participation of the private sector and its agents to achieve its successful implementation.

These courses were taught by Dr. Mirian Jiménez, Tú Primero consultant, Anna Hernández, director of the Observatory for Social Policies and Development (OPSD), and Marcela Romero, GRI certified trainer, expert in sustainability reports and general director of BSD Consulting. /ELEVATE in Colombia.

These activities were aimed at professionals with degrees in economic, social and business sciences, with experience in the management of human and financial resources and processes. In addition, key actors from the private sector involved and interested in sustainable management within the organizations and professors of the PUCMM participated.

The module "Sustainable Development Goals: an opportunity for impact for the private sector" was held on April 4 and 5 in Puerto Plata and on June 6 and 7 in Punta Cana, with the participation of 28 and 29 executives from the tourism sector, respectively.

In addition, two talks were organized for private sector executives, linked to the area of Corporate Social Responsibility, on the Santo Domingo campus of PUCMM. On April 26, Anna Hernández presented the topic "The generation of knowledge from within: the experience of the Observatory of Social Policies and Development" and on June 6 Marcela Romero presented "Strategic integration of the Sustainable Development Goals in the models of sustainable business”.

The SDGs are 17 global objectives focused mainly on achieving, before the year 2030, eradicate poverty, guarantee health, education and gender equality; protect the planet, through responsible consumption and sustainable economic growth, and ensure peace, justice and prosperity for all people. They were adopted in September 2015 by world leaders as a joint commitment to the United Nations (UN).

It is in the interest of the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Margarita Cedeño, that the alliance between government agencies, international organizations, academia, and the business sector continue to strengthen the capacities of the private sector through spaces for dialogue, modules, diploma courses, and panels. at the regional and national level to achieve the SDGs by 2030.
