The Chair of Sustainability "Alejandro E. Grullón E." of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Popular Foundation, held the virtual discussion “Responsible business conduct in a changing world of work: the perspective of the International Labor Organization (ILO)”.

In the welcoming remarks, Angye Rincón, director of the chair, indicated that according to the latest ILO report "Employment and informality in Latin America and the Caribbean: an insufficient and unequal recovery," published on September 8, "At a A year and a half into the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic, labour, health and social crisis has exacerbated the significant deficits of decent work and the high levels of pre-existing inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean. This region is one of the most affected in the world”.

In his dissertation, Álvaro Ramírez, a specialist in Business Development and Vocational Training at the Office for Central America, Haiti, Panama and the Dominican Republic (ILO), said that COVID-19 "has caused the most important transformation that the world has seen in the work in the last century. What is happening is a revolution that poses enormous challenges for all parties, especially for education that has been facing global competition with the rise of online education.

Next, Olga Orozco, coordinator at the ILO for Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama of the CERALC Project, spoke about the role of this international organization in responsible business conduct, corporate social responsibility and the current situation of the Dominican Republic in terms of work.

Meanwhile, Jorge Rodríguez, coordinator from the ILO for Latin America and the Caribbean of the CERALC Project, shared that the organization makes available to the public, along with other tools, the "helpdesk", or help center, which is a unified web portal of resources in order for individuals and companies to learn about international labor standards and their application on a day-to-day basis.
