Santo Domingo, R.D.- The Sustainability Chair "Alejandro E. Grullón E." and the Center for Technology and Permanent Education (TEP-PUCMM), organized the panel Climate financing as a tool for multisectoral implementation: perspective of national and international actors, within the framework of the Diploma in Public Policies and Climate Change.

The purpose of the event was to learn about the efforts of various actors at the regional level involved with the efforts of access and availability of climate financing as one of the means of implementation of the Paris Agreement. Climate financing is found in public, private and alternative sources at the local, national or transnational level, with the purpose of supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation actions.

Jeniffer Hanna, academic coordinator of the diploma, indicated that climate financing is one of the crucial means of implementation for compliance with the Paris Agreement. Likewise, Hanna pointed out that it is highly relevant that all actors in the territory know the different modalities and instruments of climate financing and can execute actions from their roles and contribute to climate action.

For his part, Juan Carlos Monterrey, director of Climate Resilient and inaugural expert of the Obama Foundation, highlighted the need to increase climate financing by almost 600% by 2030 to meet the objective of the Paris Agreement of limiting the increase in global average temperature at 1.5 C. Monterrey Gómez emphasized the role of the private sector in promoting this financial revolution and ensuring that the benefits of the transition towards a sustainable economy benefit all levels of society.

According to panelist Eduardo Piquero, general director of MÉXICO2, in order to accelerate the mobilization of capital and move towards a sustainable market, coordination between various actors and the creation of new mechanisms are necessary to achieve climate goals and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The panel also included the presentation of: Daniella Suger, regional specialist engineer in Carbon Markets in Guatemala; and the participation of Elías Dinzey, general manager of the Popular Foundation.

This academic program is taught by the Sustainability Chair "Alejandro E. Grullón E." and the Center for Technology and Permanent Education (TEP-PUCMM).

The panel took place on Friday, May 20, 2022 and was broadcast through a virtual platform.
