Conep, PUCMM and Fundación Popular agree to promote socially and environmentally sustainable business management

Santo Domingo, R. D. - July 24, 2019.- The National Council of Private Enterprise and the Chair of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability "Alejandro E. Grullón E.", an initiative of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Popular Foundation, signed an agreement to drive and promote new forms of socially and environmentally sustainable business management, aligned with the provisions of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.

With this agreement, the signatory entities seek to generate spaces for exchange, training and awareness of key stakeholders on issues related to Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainability, Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda, among others.

Likewise, they will work to make visible and promote good practices and lessons learned from Dominican companies that, for some years now, have been developing initiatives in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability, as well as promoting the contributions of the private sector to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. and the 2030 Agenda in the Dominican Republic.

The president of Conep, Pedro Brache, affirmed that the "Dominican private sector is committed to advancing in the fulfillment of the commitments assumed in the 2030 Agenda, for this reason we join the academy to promote that from the private initiative we promote business management socially and environmentally responsible and sustainable is the norm, and that we have more and more examples of good business practices that contribute to the economic and social development of the country”.

We seek to be a center for the generation of knowledge on good practices of the contribution of the private sector for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and provide Dominican companies with specialized training and innovative tools that contribute to the implementation of sustainable strategies for well-being. economic, social and environmental of their communities”, expressed the priest doctor Alfredo de la Cruz Baldera, rector of the PUCMM.

On behalf of Grupo Popular, its Executive Vice President of Public Relations and Communications, José Mármol, stated that "companies have the great challenge of incorporating into their business plans and strategic vision, under sustainability and risk mitigation criteria, a favorable impact in their social environment and a firm position to protect the environment. There could be no successful companies or governments in a degraded socio-economic and environmental environment or without clear expectations of a shared purpose in favor of communities and their economic, social and environmental sustainability”.

The signatory entities recognize that this is the best moment to continue forging synergies that contribute to promoting a shared vision, from the private sector perspective and hand in hand with academia, where each social actor fulfills the role that corresponds to it. materialize the true sustainable and competitive development of the nation.
