The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the National Council for Private Enterprise (CONEP) and the "Alejandro E. Grullón E." Sustainability Chair of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Fundación Popular, together with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM), organized the conference "Learn about the Impacto ODS platform and its standard of practices for companies".

Belissa Rojas, regional advisor for SDG Impact at UNDP, was in charge of the presentation that included a breakdown of characteristics linked to the pillars: strategy, management, transparency and governance, which she considered necessary "because there is a gap between current practices and the achievement of the SDGs for a more sustainable, resilient and inclusive future”.

During the meeting, Inka Mattila, UNDP representative in the Dominican Republic, highlighted the primary role of the private sector in sustainable development, pondering its potential in building a future based on business models that maximize productivity, well-being, and harmony between people and the planet”. Likewise, Cesar Dargam, executive vice president of CONEP, said that it is evident how this issue has permeated the work plans and the execution of the companies' operational strategies.

While Fantino Polanco, vice minister of the MICM, stated that it is impossible in these times to talk about industrialization without talking about sustainability. “This tool will guide and provide best practices for our industries and companies,” he specified. While Elías Dinzey, general manager of Fundación Popular, expressed that: “It is an honor for CRSES to be part of this training process. We hope that the entire business sector can receive this tool that they share with us”

The Impact ODS platform is a UNDP initiative to develop and promote resources under three pillars, aimed at accelerating financing for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the 2030 Agenda. Through Impact ODS (SDG Impact) They propose tools, guides and services for investors to facilitate their contribution to the SDGs and catalyze private capital to achieve the 2030 Agenda.

The conference was held virtually on May 14, 2021, taking into account the second (and final) public consultation period for the Business SDG Impact Standards, open until May 31, 2021. The second The draft public consultation benefits from the lessons learned from the first public consultation and from various stages of consultation on the Impact of the SDG Standards for Bond Issuers and Private Equity Funds.

This conference had the support of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR), the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants (ASONAHORES), the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs ( ANJE), the Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers (ADOCEM), the National Business Support Network for Environmental Protection (ECORED), and the Northern Region Industrial Association (AIREN).
