Santo Domingo, R. D. - June 23, 2020 - The Chair of Sustainability "Alejandro E. Grullón E." from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Popular Foundation, held the Dialogue on Corporate Social Responsibility: Sustainability management in supply chains: a condition for business competitiveness, given by Marcela Romero, general manager of BSD Consulting ELEVATE - Colombia.

During the webinar, Marcela Romero explained the importance of working on resilience in supply chains, as recent times have led us to work directly or indirectly in supply chains. She highlighted that, more and more, we see investors interested in understanding how the environmental, social and corporate governance performance of the supply chains of the companies in which they invest is like; Because it has been increasingly identified that the ability of companies' supply chains to respond to external shocks also affects the profitability of investments in the companies in which they are engaged.

Marcela Romero raised how the Covid-19 is intertwined with what is happening in the supply chains, generating a massive interruption of the supply chains at a global level and that leads us to reflect on the resilience capacity, the impact that the global supply chains, over other companies. In addition, she Romero affirmed “to the extent that the pandemic has moved to other parts of the world, we begin to see disruption in the production and supply of food; This makes us think precisely about how supply chains should be in the future, so that they can respond to external shocks”.

She stressed that “we must create new strategies as nations so that these clashes do not find us unawares again. It is important that we have a comprehensive understanding of supply chain risk, what are those underlying vulnerabilities in the supply chain that eventually make it fragile, and what is the level of exposure and susceptibility to unforeseen events or shocks, like the one we are experiencing. living today with the issue of Covid-19, which has hit the world economies and we do not know when we will recover ”.

By way of conclusion, Romero expressed "today we see that there is a greater attraction and retention of talent among employees when companies are committed to the issue of sustainability and the issue of sustainable supply chains and it is a large part of what that is managed when one manages a sustainability strategy in business”.
