Grupo Popular and PUCMM ratify collaboration agreement for specialized training in CSR and sustainability

Since 2015 it has carried out 115 training activities

Grupo Popular, through Fundación Popular, Inc., and the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) ratified the collaboration and management agreement of the "Alejandro E. Grullón E." Sustainability Chair, after six years of well-known successes in the training of professionals, both for companies and institutions, in the design and execution of CSR and sustainability policies and strategies.

In the six years of activity, the chair has graduated three cohorts of the master's degree in CSR and Sustainability, has carried out two Perception studies on CSR in the Dominican Republic, as well as promoted conferences, talks, workshops, meetings, panels, diplomas, specialization courses, modules on SDGs, which have impacted 6,511 managers of the private sector, government authorities and representatives of the third sector. In 2020 alone, the chair reached more than a thousand people through its different training activities and creation of discussion spaces on these topics.

Since the inauguration of the Chair, Grupo Popular and PUCMM agreed to recognize that the modern company must transcend its role as a unit that produces goods and services to become a motor for social renewal, promoting the well-being of the interest groups that come together in their productive task, the responsible use of natural resources and the conservation of the environment.

Likewise, the chair is also a recognition of the professional and human career of the founder of Banco Popular Dominicano and its parent company, Grupo Popular, Mr. Alejandro E. Grullón E. (1929-2020) for his legacy to the Dominican nation as an entrepreneur visionary and humanist. Mr. Grullón has been a collaborator of PUCMM since its foundation and an Ad Vitam member of its Board of Directors.

In his words, the rector of PUCMM, Monsignor Alfredo de la Cruz Baldera, indicated that this educational space has managed to train more than 50 managers through the Master's Degree in CSR and Sustainability, which is taught in partnership with the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. Currently, in its fourth cohort, the master's degree has 15 specialists from different areas of the professional work of corporate responsibility and sustainability.

For his part, Mr. Manuel E. Jiménez F., executive president of Grupo Popular, thanked the university for the gesture of recognizing the business example and human trajectory of Mr. Alejandro E. Grullón E., having named the chair with his name, while highlighting the fact that this initiative constitutes an academic space for specialized training, the only one of its kind in the country, aimed at representatives of the private business sector, public institutions and civil society, as well as liberal professionals and students with a bachelor's degree.

 

Platform to foster alliances

The Chair of Sustainability “Alejandro E. Grullón E.” promotes the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 17, since it maintains alliances with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the Dominican Republic, the Council National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism, the National Council for Private Enterprise (CONEP), the SUPERATE program and the specialized consulting firm ELEVATE/BSD Consulting.
