Santo Domingo, RD. –

The “Alejandro E. Grullón E.” Sustainability Chair, an initiative of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Popular Foundation, began the Diploma in Public Policies and Climate Change, together with the Center for Technology and Permanent Education ( PET).

The main objective of the academic program is to invest in national human capital and provide the necessary knowledge and tools to formulate and implement transformational, multisectoral public policies that are consistent with national climate action.

The general director of the TEP, José Armando Tavárez, added that the diploma is more than pertinent, due to the great changes that have arisen in the current century, such as the significant advances that have impacted human life due to collateral damage in climatic alterations. These advances can produce unsustainable or unsustainable models and can threaten the care of the planet.

In his speech, Elías Dinzey, general manager of Fundación Popular, expressed his confidence that this diploma course will strengthen the adaptation process in public policies in the face of climate change, helping to promote planning and actions that facilitate the mitigation of the adverse effects of climate and the adaptation of the most vulnerable areas of the Dominican Republic.

Likewise, Jeniffer Hanna, academic coordinator of the Diploma in Public Policies and Climate Change, commented that international legislation will be addressed adapting it to the national one, in order to give the participants a base and knowledge about the meaning of climate change, showing them how each one can help in the implementation of the topic in question.

Also present were Angye Rincón, director of the chair, and Nathalie Flores, director of Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
