Santo Domingo, DR- The Sustainability Chair "Alejandro E. Grullón E.", of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Popular Foundation, and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), held the virtual conference "Accessibility and labor inclusion: challenges and opportunities”.

In his dissertation, the doctor in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Cristóbal Miralles, began by reviewing the principles of universal design, which inspired the broader approaches of Design for All (DpTP), and which are currently motivated within the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Miralles highlighted that when properly focused, the application of DpTP can be relatively simple and the philosophy they share is the same: the person is not expected to adapt to the characteristics of an inflexible product or environment, rather it is the product or service that It must be versatile and adapt to your needs, characteristics or preferences.

Likewise, the professor of the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineers stressed that the solution must come from the true involvement of companies that, in their CSR policies, should consider these people as a group of interest in a broader way.

In his participation, Dr. Miralles highlighted the importance of the socio-labour inclusion of people with functional diversity, as one of the most vulnerable groups and the most difficult to integrate. At the event, some barriers to job accessibility and management tools that minimize these barriers were reviewed.

Through multiple examples, Miralles verified how companies can also achieve a series of strategic advantages, linked to reputation and access to extensible market niches, by implementing labor inclusion initiatives.

The question and answer session and the closing words and thanks were given by Angye Rincón, director of the chair, and Elías Dinzey, general manager of the Popular Foundation.

This activity took place on Friday, July 29, 2022.
