SANTO DOMINGO-. The Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) celebrated its 73rd Santo Domingo Campus Graduation Ceremony this Saturday and delivered 870 professionals to society. The academy thus reaches a general total of 94,634 graduates, in its 60-year history.

Women continue to lead the number of graduates, as they represent 63% with 550 graduates, while the 320 men represent 37%. In terms of nationality, 93% are Dominicans and the remaining 7% are foreigners.

The new electronic engineer Justin Eladio Bueno Díaz, was the one who gave the words of thanks on behalf of the graduates. Here he reminded his colleagues that they have not reached this goal that they are celebrating today alone, but also accompanied by colleagues, family, friends, teachers and counselors.

"The honor of receiving a university degree today extends to all those who supported us when the road seemed impossible, those who taught us with values, those who gave us their knowledge, those who clarified our doubts and those who eased our fears", highlighted the young man who rose with an academic index of 4.00.

The guest speaker at this ceremony was María Amalia León, president of the Eduardo León Jimenes Foundation and general director of the León Center. During her speech, María Amalia said that this moment in life is a luxury and a great opportunity "to think about ourselves and deepen our knowledge of ourselves."

And she said that a strong identity is translated into one simple word: self-esteem. "A human being who authentically values himself will inevitably value others and that self-esteem that is forged by the knowledge that is inhabited gives us security...", she said.

Before introducing the guest speaker, Rector Secilio Espinal, highlighted that the investiture of graduates is and has been the main contribution of this university in its six decades of service to society. "You are called to be that fresh breeze of hope for those who live without sense or hope, showing that it is possible to achieve dreams and goals through discipline, work and studies...", highlighted the father.

Of the total number of graduates in this ceremony, there are 680 undergraduate professionals, for 78%, and 190 complete their postgraduate program, including four doctorates: In Law, Ylona María de la Rocha Camilo, Juan Francisco Puello Herrera, María del Pilar Zuleta Gomez; and in Spanish Studies, Edwin Rafael Paniagua.

The greeting to the new doctors was one of the most emotional moments of the delivery of these titles, with hugs and much standing applause for those who achieved this last and most important academic title.
