Tools for managing business sustainability agendas are presented

 

The Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Margarita Cedeño, as coordinator of the Social Policies Cabinet, bets on public-private alliances to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals

SANTO DOMINGO, November 20, 2018.- With the objective of presenting tools to the private sector to achieve their sustainability agendas aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the Vice Presidency of the Republic, the United Nations Development Program ( UNDP), the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Popular Foundation held this Tuesday the meeting called “Tools for the management of sustainability in companies”.

In the activity, headed by the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Margarita Cedeño, the deputy representative of the UNDP in the country, Luciana Mermet; the general director of BSD Consulting Colombia, Marcela Romero; and the technical advisor of Llorente & Cuenca, Isabel Roser.

The initiative is the result of an alliance between the aforementioned entities, in which the Alejandro E. Grullón E. Chair of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability, from PUCMM and the Popular Foundation; and the Tú Primero project of the Cabinet for the Coordination of Social Policies (GCPS) headed by the Vice President.

The 17 SDGs, their 169 goals and 231 indicators are mainly focused on achieving, before the year 2030, eradicate poverty, guarantee health, education and gender equality; protect the planet, through responsible consumption, sustainable economic growth and ensure peace, justice and prosperity for all people. To achieve these ends, governments, industries, civil society and citizens have a role to play.

The meeting was held at the Santo Tomás de Aquino Campus of the aforementioned academy, and included welcoming remarks by Mr. José Mármol, Executive Vice President of Public Relations and Communications of Grupo Popular. In April of this year, the aforementioned institutions analyzed the progress, opportunities and business challenges for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and encouraged the contribution of the business community to comply with the SDGs in the country during the panel "Sustainable Development Goals: an opportunity of impact for the private sector”.

On that occasion, Dr. Margarita Cedeño highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships so that the country can meet the 17 SDGs, and considered that all citizens have something to contribute in reaching the goal. While Mermet stressed that the private sector is essential to achieve the aforementioned goals since globally it creates 90 percent of jobs; it is responsible for the movement of 80 percent of the capital flow and 60 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

On behalf of the Alejandro E. Grullón E. Chair of CSR and Sustainability, Mr. José Mármol stressed that the SDGs are an excellent roadmap for sustainable and inclusive development actions in all sectors at a global, regional, national and international level. local.
