Closing ceremony of the diploma in public policies and climate change

Santo Domingo, DR. – The Center for Technology and Permanent Education (TEP), the Popular Foundation and the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), within the framework of the "Alejandro E. Grullón E." Sustainability Chair, held the closing ceremony of the Diploma in Public Policy and Climate Change.

In this sense, the rector of the PUCMM, Reverend Father Dr. Secilio Espinal, affirmed that "at the national level in the training process we have a legal framework that allows these initiatives and the creation of these public policies in this direction, but these will have effect as we advocate and work for education, awareness and citizen awareness.

Likewise, the rector of the PUCMM expressed that public and private institutions can guide their actions and decisions in favor of sustainable development in accordance with the SDGs, in this way allow the care and preservation of the environment, as the Pope calls us. Francis in charge of our common home in his encyclical Laudato Si.

For his part, Dr. Max Puig, executive vice president of the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism (CNCCMDL), who was in charge of the main conference, stated that "we are at a decisive moment in the history of humanity, so basic agreements must be made on fundamental issues, such as climate change, defining the change that we can achieve in it,” said Puig.

Within the framework of the activity, Mariel Bera, vice president of the Corporate Relations and Responsible Banking Area of Banco Popular Dominicano, said that, "in the face of this challenge of global magnitude, Grupo Popular recognizes that addressing climate change is essential to create a sustainable future, and for the purposes the contributions of the organization have been generated in two perspectives, the mitigation and the contribution to the adaptation of the effects of climate change, this diploma fulfills both objectives with potential”, affirmed the executive.

On behalf of the graduates, Walkiria Estévez shared that "the objective of this course, to invest in national human capital and provide it with the necessary knowledge and tools that allow the formulation and implementation of transformational public policies and coherence with national climate action, is has achieved; and

Without a doubt, it is learning that has allowed us to complement our knowledge, reinforce knowledge, acquire new skills and key tools to be able to have an active participation and influence from the positions in which we find ourselves”.

The activity was attended by the PUCMM, by Dr. David Álvarez, former academic vice-rector; Dr. Iluminada Severino, Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance; Belmarys Rodríguez, General Director of the Center for Technology and Permanent Education (TEP); Angye Rincón, director of the "Alejandro E. Grullón E." Sustainability Chair, and on behalf of the Popular Foundation, Dabeida Agramonte, Project Manager.

Facilitators of the academic program were Iván Relova, Delio Rincón, Víctor Viñas, Rafael Berigüete, Federico Grullón, Omar Ramírez, Carol Franco, Iván Carvajal, Nelly Cuello, José Carlos Fernández, Pedro Coss, Óscar Polanco, Ana Sofía Ovalle, and Jeniffer Hanna , who served as academic coordinator.

In this second version of the diploma, a total of 53 professionals from the Ministries of Public Administration were certified; of Agriculture; of Culture; Defending; Economy, Planning and Development; Higher Education, Science and Technology; Industry, Commerce and MSMEs; Interior and Police; of the woman; Presidency; Environment and Natural Resources; e Public Works and Communications; External relationships; Public Health and Social Assistance; the City Hall of the National District; the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic; Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic; the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism; the Santiago Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation; the General Directorate of Budget, and the National Statistics Office.

Executives from the Popular Foundation, Grupo Universal, National Network for Business Support for Environmental Protection, Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers, INC., Popular Association of Savings and Loans, International Foundation for Community Development, Board of Associations also participated. Peasants Rafael Fernández Domínguez, INC., Dominican Peasant Movement, Cibao Ecological Society, and professors from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, Technological Catholic University of Barahona and PUCMM.

The event took place on Thursday, June 30, 2022, in the PUCMM Auditorium I.
